Mark bends the metal for the scuttle. The scuttle is the part of the car between the dash and the hood. With the scuttle, the Votus will finally start looking like a curvy sportscar!

Measuring the front scuttle bar against our template. Dano on the left, Mark in the middle.

A few pictures of the rolling chassis in proper daylight. Since we do most of our work on Wednesday nights, we haven't had many daylight opportunities for photos with the car outside this winter. But now it's spring and daylight savings is here - although it's May and it's only 47°! The rear end.

Again, the rear end. No caliper on this side. These springs are way too stiff. We'll be looking for some softer ones, or the car will suffer from a bit too much oversteer (which is always kinda fun). As of now, the air pressure in the tires are providing the only suspension.

The other side of the rear end - caliper visible on this side. Hopefully we'll plumb the brakes in the coming weeks, as well as the gas. Then a little steering will get the car rolling under power!

Detail of above.

The motor mounts that Mark made, painted black.

Front suspension with calipers installed.

Detail of front suspension, upper A-arm painted.

The complete rolling chassis.

Dano is checking the placement of the nosecone against the scuttle/dashboard. See the bent piece of steel for the dash? Looks nice, no?

Another view of the same. We're going to change the grille on the nosecone - we'll make a custom one that looks a little nicer than the current chicken wire.

The scuttle in a more complete state with the front of the scuttle tacked in place. And floor panels! The front of the cockpit's floorboards ar cut as well, but they haven't been tacked in yet. The floorboards and the scuttle are all steel, 18 guage. The rest of the bodywork will be aluminium (except the nosecone which is fiberglass).

Dano and Vince are tanning the hide of the buffalo for the two seats. The buffalo is an early '70's Volvo 140 rear seat.

Mark is welding on the front edge of the scuttle, the edge on which the hood will rest.

Dano is the first passenger in the Votus! It's very comfortable. We're going to put 12 cupholders in the dash and the tranny tunnel - one more than the Dodge Caravan.

Dano as a passenger as Vince takes a nap behind the wheel. It's really looking too much like a car right now! The passenger side seat bottom isn't installed in this picture. That's why Dano is sitting lower than Vince.

In our next installments we're going to start working on the steering, brakes, and fuel. We were going to work on that before, but we just had an impulse to do work on the Votus that made it look more like a real car! So now that it does, we're going to do more work that makes it drive like a car.
